Glorietta Bomb Blast And The Perils Of Life

The Glorietta bomb blast happened at an unexpected time. My friend had just eaten lunch. She was at the CR when the explosion shook the mall. The sound of the blast ripped through the noontime noise. Her friend pounded on the door and shouted they should go out fast! They ran in panic, leaving their jeans unzipped.

It was their lucky day. They should have been at the place of the blast if not for the call of nature. Others were not as lucky. The bombing killed 11 and sent more than a hundred to the hospitals. It's been exactly a month since then.

The cause of the explosion is not yet settled. The police said the buildup of methane and diesel fumes at the unventilated basement of Glorietta mall caused the blast. Ayala Land Inc., the owner of Glorietta, has contested the findings.

The Glorietta bomb blast ended precious lives and made me think about the perils of life. Tragedy strikes anytime, especially when you least expect it. Most of the time people are caught not prepared.

No one knows when death or accident will come. People do not mind uncertain events until they occur. And by that time it may be too late. But it is never late to prepare.

Public Liability Insurance

A news story from inquirer.net said Muntinlupa City would require businesses in its area to get public liability insurance as an offshoot of the Glorietta 2 bombing. If approved, this would be a requirement in getting business permit.

Public liability insurance protects a company against legal liabilities arising from the operation of its business. It offers benefits to customers in case of deaths or injuries within the premises. The insurance may also cover legal fees, costs and expenses and even hospital treatment.

Unforeseen events in companies occur almost everyday. This kind of business insurance ensures that claims against such mishaps are addressed accordingly. That is if you are a business owner. Or if you were in the premises of the business when the unthinkable happened.

But your individual protection depends on your life coverage. It does not depend on the public liability insurance of any business. In unfortunate events such as the Glorietta bomb blast, it pays to have life insurance coverage. You will never know when tragedy strikes...
